Music through my eyes…

Music is Wonderful...

Dear Jazz,

You are my first love and gave birth to all other music. You’ve always made me feel…passionately and creatively. Your musicians and their instruments continue to woo me and I love the way they make me feel. I appreciate your authenticity; always staying true to what you are no matter how others feel you should change. For you it’s never been about the money or commercial appeal; it’s always been and remains about beautiful music.

Loving you always and forever…

Dear Blues and Country,

Thank you for giving us great music we can release our sadness into and be uplifted in the very next moment. “They” have tried to change you but we are so thankful that you’ve stayed true to what you are…beautiful, soulful and distinctive.

Loving you always…

Dear Hip Hop,

Thank you for your messages; you’ve made us think and want more than just what society thinks we deserve. Thank you for making skills for the art a requirement; thank you for the flow and the rhythms we’ve enjoyed for decades. You’ve also stayed authentic blessing us with artist delivering meaningful words, poetic verses and individuality. Keep pushing the boundaries and never let anyone dictate what you should be.

Loving you always…

Dear Rock & Roll,

I love you because you have always allowed everyone to be exactly who they are! Your music always has versatility and there is something for everyone to enjoy. You keep instruments deeply entwined in your music and that will always keep me coming back for more.

Loving you always…

Dear Classical,

When it’s time to get things done…you increase my focus. I love your highs and lows and you’ve always stayed true to what you are; thank you.

Loving you always…

Dear Rhythm & Blues,

I’m disappointed in what you’ve become. You used to make us want to fall in love and experience beautiful things…yes even sexual intimacy. You boasted some of the greatest talent ever to grace the music industry. Now you are only about degrading lyrics extinguishing authentic intimacy and creating cultural disrespect of mothers, wives, sisters, daughters and friends.

Truly disenchanted!

Dear Rap,

Please fall into the ocean and don’t bother to come up for air! I’m so over your negative messages, lack of talent, wait did I mention…LACK OF TALENT?! Where are your writers, producer, musicians or individuals not afraid to be true to themselves and what they consider to be their art? *crickets* I’m tired of people confusing you with Hip Hop…absolutely no relation; more like a genetically modified version sucking the life out of true artists. You are synonymous with an unattended septic tank.

Absolutely disgusted!

Love, Peace & Blessings…

Hip Hop & Me Part I…

Aggravated from standing for hours trying to be cute in heels at a concert (wrong answer!), it’s apparent that most of the opening acts have not studied the art of Hip Hop. My assessment is determined by their weak delivery and NON stage presence. There were a few however, who had me rocking back and forth, listening to their lyrics wondering when they would get their chance to shine.

By the time He arrived, I was pretty pissed off and ready to leave. I stood there in front of the stage arms folded getting my pout on; eyes rolling up and down. He finally came on stage and I had my eyes closed like no no no I can’t forgive him for making me wait so long. At the sound of his voice, my eyes eased open and as soon as I saw Him, my heart melted. I swear tears came to my eyes and I immediately perked up.

How could I stay mad at the one who made me fall so deeply in love with Hip Hop? The one who made the “bad boy” look oh so appealing? The one who sounds and looks like he hasn’t missed a beat since his voice first blessed the air waves during a Saturday master mix? There he was seemingly larger than life just as he was way back when…His voice strong and clear as ever; stage presence commanding just as I remember long ago.

His first verse made me wonder…how can I enjoy the selection of what most consider Hip Hop today? I mean back when Hip Hop was REAL, you had to be an Emcee, a true Emcee and bring it each time you grabbed a microphone. A gimmick wasn’t enough. You had to have lyrical skills, stage presence, a DJ with ill beats, gear and a tough hook to captivate the audience. To be considered a REAL Emcee, you had to be ready for battle anytime anyplace with freestyle lyrics that were as good as those you had time to compose.

I’m all for evolution but today’s Hip Hop…I mean “rap music” does not have standards. Basically whoever has the best gimmick at the time is what everyone ends up following. The music nor lyrics have any originality. I miss the days when one Emcee would make the next Emcee step his/her game way up! Hip Hop had standards and the pioneers built an entire culture for us to enjoy but now…

Well He was a breath of fresh air and I felt the wonder that Hip Hop used to be listening to him perform. His lyrics make you think most times and other times he makes you dance and let go. He is the REALEST Emcee in my book; extremely versatile and his effortlessly commanding style is unmatched.

Others have been great in their contributions to Hip Hop but He is and will always be THE GREATEST in my book. He is…Rakim a.k.a The R a.k.a Rakim Allah. Say what you want, think what you will but if you love Hip Hop as I do and you have done your homework…there is no way you won’t agree that Rakim is truly THE GREASTEST OF ALL TIME!

PERIOD!

J-Rich – Fresh New Hip Hop Talent

I am becoming increasingly frustrated with the music industry. We can’t afford to keep fresh new talent hidden instead we need to do everything we can to expose them to the masses. J-Rich is an upcoming Hip Hop artist determined to create an authentic Hip Hop base in his hometown Toronto, Canada. Music today has become so mundane, even predictable so J-Rich’s arrival is greatly anticipated. J-Rich is bringing a fresh and fun approach to Hip Hop that is well overdue.

J-Rich began performing at age 15 with Block 13 Kidz before stepping out on his own to create and share the music in his soul. He often collaborates with other Canadian Artists to accomplish his of goal of officially putting Toronto on the music scene.

J-Rich’s flow, catchy phrases and overall appearance is often compared to his favorite Hip Hop artist Fabolous. To date, J-Rich has released two mixtapes “Damage Control” and “Rich in a Recession”. He is currently working on his third soon to be released mixtape “J-Rich Meets OT”. J-Rich is just 20 years young and still learning how to maneuver in the music industry but his great work ethic and raw talent will take him as far as he is willing to go.

Most impressive is J-Rich’s dedication and willingness to grind hard to make his long time dream quickly become reality. My favorite songs to date are Real Rap Part II and Fireworks. J-Rich’s music is rekindling my love affair with Hip Hop; a beautiful experience. J-Rich is proving to be a good look and just what we need to help revive the music we used to cherish, Hip Hop.

State of Hip Hop I by Dedaman313

As i sit here watchin hip hop diminish , replenish ,diminish & replenish ( unstable), I wonder……..??????

I just wanna take the time to breakdown some of your favorite artist ……

1. Lil Wayne

Best Rapper Alive? (did jay-z die?)

I personally think wayne is an awesome rapper!!!! (now pay attention kids)

New day , New drink right ? My definition of what qualifies an artist to be the best may differ from a lot of yours.

Back to Lil wayne , Swag… yes , Energy… yes , Wordplay… yes . I think he needs to concentrate more on making sense a lot of the time. To most, this is over shadowed by the energy & the swag , and when i say wordplay i mean the art of skilled and somewhat complex rhyming . No doubt he flooded the mixtape circuit & with some heat too, I might add . The only thing now was would the album live up to the hype ?

The Carter 3 debuted at #1 as expected & is a pretty entertaining album !! Classic? Well if we are going by where the bar is set ( first week sales ) from the likes of Doggystyle, Get Rich or Die Trying etc. Which also did a mil+ its first week, then maybe. (Here comes the curve) So this is what its come too ? First week sales & sounds can determines what is a classic album now ? Imma be brutally honest, Wayne is a GREAT RAPPER! An Above average MC & a poor songwriter . He is such a good rapper that he gets away with babbling a lot of the time ! Again the energy ,the swag veers u away from the fact that there is no substance the majority of the time . I think Cash Money/Universal did the ultimate marketing/anticipation since Doggystyle! Not to take away from the albums credibility or anything (I personally like tha Carter 2 a lot better). I just feel the need to get something out of a song & i dont get that from wayne most of the time . On the song “A MillI” , am i the only one that realizes that it’s not even a song for real ? That it’s just a hot freestyle ? At the end of it can anyone on earth tell me what the joint was about ? That’s my only critique on him really . Regardless, he has made a lot of money & has a bright future ahead of him . (Stay Tuned….. next week its Nas’)

Chris Brown – Forgiveness

I’ve been a victim of abuse yet I don’t have any ill feeling towards this young man
I see him and I smile; I just don’t feel like he is the monster that many believe him to be
He is inspirational and his courage makes me believe my dreams will come true
His dedication, his soul-stirring words have captured me
He has given me the courage I need to be the true Lioness I was born to be
Forgiveness is a big part of living your life completely
The more people try to condemn him, the more blessings he will receive
God did not create us to judge others; rather his hope is for us to uplift and encourage each other
Game, 50 Cents; I’ve never been a fan but because you have defended this awesome young man, I will return your support
Forgive this young man as he has paid dearly for his mistakes
Let him move on and continue to create GREAT music and art for us to enjoy.
P.S. Chris…you must truly forgive yourself and let it go once and for all. Release the demons and allow peace to settle inside of your soul.
